About us
Perhaps we feel guilty for trashing the planet for so many years.
Perhaps we have come to the realization of how much waste we produce
and where it all ends up. Perhaps it’s because we detest plastic, even
though it does have its uses. Perhaps it's because we want to live a
healthier lifestyle. Perhaps most of all, it's because our children
should be given the opportunity to appreciate the land, the animals and
the plants, thereby allowing them to grow up with a sense of knowing
that cannot be learnt sitting behind a computer screen or playing video
games but rather by doing, interacting, caring and creating. Given this
knowledge, our children should hopefully be far more aware of their
surroundings and their impact on the world than we ever were.
Green – not with jealousy, not cabbage looking, not sickly but to do with nature, growth, sustainability and being environmentally friendly.
Welly – Wellington boots that you wear when it’s raining and muddy, which is pretty often in the UK.
Monster – a little green rubber monster looking creature that sat on top of my pencils when I was a kid. And well, we're all monsters of some description, aren't we?
Terri
Founder of Green Welly Monster. A lover of wide open spaces, travel and nature, Terri has been an IT professional for the last 20 years but when a visit to Fiji in August 2007 opened her eyes to the fact that living sustainably was what we should all be doing, she began by making changes in her own home but wanted to do more. The Green Welly Monster eco-village idea was born.
Kevin
Loves building things, always keen to get stuck in with some tools and willing to give most things a go. The first
tools he owned were an axe, a saw and a hammer at the age of 7 (his
mother drew the line at a pick axe), and then he bought his own tool
set with some birthday money two years later. He wants space to ride
his bike and is going to start an RC centre where children (and grown-ups) who are
visiting the eco-village can play with their remote control toys.
Jennifer
Loves making cocktails – a job behind the bar perhaps, when she is older?! She likes healthy food, animals and climbing trees. She is good at organising and delegating and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. She is keen to work in the restaurant at the eco-village.
